Other than using roaming profiles, how can you configure Outlook to
automatically configure the user's Exchange mailbox login settings when
the Exchange 2003 mailbox is on a different domain with a different
user name than the local Win2k domain?
For instance, the user logs in to the computer using their local domain
user name of "JSmith," but their user name for their Exchange mailbox
on the external domain is something like "user72893789289."
We would like to save time manually configuring Outlook settings for
the user and allow them to log into other computers and have Outlook
automatically configure itself. We cannot use %username% in the
Outlook Profile Wizard because of this since it will try to insert the
local domain user name which will not work.
OWA is not available.
Another issue we have is the need to enter the other domain's fully
qualified domain name in front of the Outlook user name each time and
it doesn't come up as the default. It has to be either typed or
manually selected from the drop down menu:
user779890898 is pre-populated, but to log in they need to have
subdomain.topleveldomain\user7999898 which is not there by default, but
must be manually chosen from the drop down menu in the Outlook login
dialog box. This is a tedious task the user must remember to do each
time they login since it will not allow them to login without
subdomain.topleveldomain\ in front of the username.
Any workaround or way to make the correct login choice the default
pre-populated text in the login box rather than to be the alternate
choice that must be selected from the drop down menu? Clicking the
save password box doesn't work.
I suppose another nicer fix would be a way to let the user name alone
work without the need to attach all the external domain info in front
of it.
