Automatic Booklets

Michael-Maine

I have Word 2003 on a Windows PC. Under "Page Setup", there is
"Multiple Pages" option called "Book Fold". I have a printer with
duplex option. When I setup a document with "Book Fold" and print i
on my duplex printer, all I have to do is take the pages out of th
printer, staple them down the center, fold them in half, and I'm al
done. (There is no special document setup.)

A friend of mine is using Mac Word X (I guess it's the 2001 version).
It has a "mirror margins" checkbox, but no "Book Fold" option.

Can someone out there with Mac Word 2004 tell me if there is a "Boo
Fold" option under "Page Setup". If so, I'll tell my friend of buy Ma
Word 2004.

I know there are many posts that describe manual ways to accomplis
creating a booklet. With Word 2003, the whole process is automatic.
am looking for an automatic way to do this on the Mac.

Thanks

Michael:

No: No automatic booklet printing in Mac Word, not in any version.

And the Macros offered for earlier versions of PC Word do not work either,
because Mac Word's VBA does not support one of the functions required.

Sorry: Your friend will have to do it manually.

Cheers

There's some third party freeware/shareware that can make it pretty close to
automatic, using the built-in PDF function in the OS, and avoiding the need
to reshuffle the pages yourself or flip them over.

Tell your friend to Google for

€ CocoaBooklet (free)
€ Cheap Impostor (free and paid modes)
€ BookLightning (demo and paid modes)

Any of these programs will work--listed in order of my personal
recommendation.

Once set up, booklets will require two steps, and nothing more:
File | Print, Make Booklet
Find resulting file in Finder and print it. (assuming your friend has a
duplex printer as well)

You'll find some discussion of the process, making the booklet look good,
and links to the programs, here but the page probably has more information
than is required.

Also, I think your friend does NOT want to use mirror margins in conjunction
with a folding booklet.

Last year I bought Booklightning for making a small booklet. It worked
perfectly. I used MS Word X. This year I need to do that again and the pages
come out wrong. After it makes the pdf file for odd and even pages, page one
of the booklet is on the left side of he first odd page. I still have the
odd and even pdf pages from last ear, and that's not the way they were.
Please help if you can. I'm just stumped. Thanks very much.

It's fine to start a new thread when you have a new problem.

You probably need to ask the BookLightning developer. I'm not sure anyone
here is very familiar with that program. Check the preferences in it and a
see if changing the settings does anything.

If Word has the right text on the right page number, then the actual
re-ordering of the pages is all up to the booklet creating program.

Or you could try one of the free alternatives, CocoaBooklet or Cheap
Impostor, if you are in a hurry.
