automatic calculation issues...

Hello,

I have a schedule in MS Project 2007 where I have the options set in
calculation mode to "Automatic" and calculate to "All Open Projects",
however, if I trace back the critical path using Task Drivers and eliminate a
driving predecessor, the software does not automatically calculate. It
changes the date on the task where I have deleted the predecessor, but does
not calculate the entire project. If I go into Options and manually
calculate it, it works fine. Has anyone else had this problem before?
Thanks for your help.

In cases where there are many scheduling issues (circular dependencies,
conflicts etc.) I have seen that calculation shuts itself off. I believe this
is by design to prevent project from going into an endless loop, but I do not
have confirmation of that.

Are you getting any schedule warnings? If you are and are ignoring them,
then I'd expect this behavior to continue.

Try working with the All Open Projects setting - perhaps that may have some
impact.

Also, you might try toggling the calculations off, closing project, then
restarting and turn them back on. I think the schedule error cause is most
likely, but if that is not the case, sometimes toggling a function will get
it re-set.

Hello,

Thanks for the reply. No schedule warnings, conflicts or circular links,
and I am already working with the All Open Projects setting, so I'll try
toggling the cal off and on to see if that solves the problem. Thanks again.

Hi

You may not get the scheduling message if the option to get scheduling
messages is not checked on. See this option in Tools > Options > View.

I hope it helps.
