Automatic Calculations in Access

I use a form with a subform to record meter readings,
dates, consumption, and a projected next service date.

The main form carries customer information, last service
date and next service projection.

I have tried to write a formula to have the data in the
subform automatically update to eliminate the manual work
and inherent human errors. Right now we have to input
the reading or service date, the current meter reading,
calculate the consumption from the previous meter reading
date, count the number of days between and manually
arrive at a daily average. The daily average is
important so we can forecast the next service date.

After fooling around with this for several months, my
daughter believes is impossible. She was able to make
the calculations automatic, but they would not save to
the form.

But it may be possible to export my data to excel and
have the calculations made there and then reimport to
access.

I have a couple of thousand service locations so cutting
down on manual labour and human errors is the ticket.
