automatic calculations within workbook

The calculations work automatically within one spreadsheet but it does not
update the references in the other spreadsheets in the same workbook. I end
up going back to the other sheets to retype the references and then it works.
what could be the reason?

I have it set up as automatic calculations in options menu.
