Automatic Calculations

Hello,
My automatic calculations are working alright, infact I can't get it to
stop autocalculating my project. I am in a constant recalculation mode where
my dates are adjusting to intervals of 6 and/or 7 days. I am not interested
in turning the auto-calc off but I can't figure out how to refrain the
adjustment operations. I have done everything from resetting my constraint
dates and types which typically reset back to their constraints when the
recalculating occurs again. Typical recalculations are every 1-2 seconds
nonstop. Half of my project is in 08 while the other half continues on its
adventure into 2015 and still going. Will someone please help me figure out
what is happening. I appreciate all the help.

Bryce,
Just a guess, but do you have paste links within your file or to other
project files? If so, that's probably what is causing the extensive
calculating. If you do not have paste links, then it's possible your
file has corruption. In that case, you might want to try one of the
methods detailed in FAQ 43 - Handling project file corruption and bloat.
Our FAQs can be found on our website at,
http://www.mvps.org/project/faqs.htm

Something else that concerns me is that you talk about resetting
constraints. Ideally, a project file should have no constraints.
Constraints on tasks interferes with Project's scheduling calculation.
The best scenario is to have all tasks driven by predecessor tasks. A
select few tasks may have a start-no-earlier-than constraint if they
indeed do not have any predecessor task (e.g. a branch of the schedule
network that must for various reasons start after the project start
date).

Hope this helps.

Automatic leveling might be turned on. Go to Tools-Resource Leveling and set
it to Manual if it's on Auto...

Or, in certain cases, using Paste Link can cause the creeping problem if you
had a case where the finish of a task is Paste Linked to the start of
another and then the finish of that one is Paste Linked to the start of the
first one. Remove this link to stop this.

Gentleman, I thank you for your help. I am new to project 2007 so I am still
learning its subtleties. I believe I have found what caused my calculation
issue. I believe it was triggerd by one of the set Durations. As I was
watching the calculations I saw this discrepancy which the duration was
around 1500 days. Again, I am new to 07 but I think that project was
auto-calculating believing that the duration was indeed correct and had to
make proper adjustments to accomodate such a large duration. While not
calculating it all at once it continued making small interval adjustments,
which is new to me. I assumed at this point that it would continue on until
I discovered the issue. Thanks again.
