"Automatic" Character Set not working

Hi all,

I recently purchased a copy of Office 2008 and I am struggling to get to grips with Entourage.

The biggest problem is the "Automatic" character set which does not seem to be doing anything automatically. The issue, as reported by other posters, is that non-English characters are converted to question marks after sending the e-mail. As one would expect, changing to "UTF-8" fixes the issue.

Is there a way to set the default Character Set to anything other than "Automatic", preferably "UTF-8"? Or is there anything else I can do to make Entourage use the industry standard UTF-8, without having to change the encoding on every e-mail or having to remember to press keys to execute scripts?

Any help is greatly appreciated.
