"Automatic" color doesn't change to white in Word 2002/XP

I'm under the impression that the "automatic" text color is supposed to
intelligently appear as white or black depending on the background
color to ensure readable contrast. This seems to work in Word 2003, but
not 2002.

1. Make text box with some text.
2. Change fill color to a dark color.
2. Verify text color is "automatic".
3. In 2002, text is black (incorrect), in 2003 it's white (correct).

Can anyone else confirm this?

More testing in Word 2002 shows "automatic" works in table cells, so
the bug only exists in text boxes. All updates to Office XP have been
installed.
