Automatic color for line style

Some excel files I use that were created by other people
have a problem with the border icon. When you click on
it, it adds a gray line instead of a black line to the
border you have chosen. If you click on Format border,
the line styles on the border tab are shown in gray and
the color is set to automatic. To get a black border, you
have to change the color to black. How do I get the
automatic color to be black as it is in new worksheets I
create? Please help!! Thanks!!!!
