automatic Column Width

When I enter a formula whose result is larger than can be displayed in the current column width, Excel automatically makes the column wider.
Can I turn this feature off?
Will it apply to other cell contents, such as text?

Manually change the column Width and that should stop it.

perhaps I wasn't clear...
I don't want Excel to determine the width of my columns automatically.
I'd like to turn this feature off PERMANENTLY.

You were clear. What you want to do CAN'T BE DONE (so stop hoping it can). Excel
is simply too @#$%*?! helpful to let you turn off such a 'useful' feature.

If you don't want columns to resize automatically, your ONLY CHOICE is to set
the size of those (all?) columns manually.

HAND and AHAYWUE.
