Hi,

I looking for a way to turn off the automatic creation of a hyperlink when I enter an email address into a cell.

When I type (e-mail address removed) Execl is automatically turning this into a hyperlink that displays as blue underlined text with a value of mailto:[email protected]. It creates a lot of extra work to have to go back and remove the hyperlink attribute each time I enter an email address.

Thanks,

CVBruce

See

http://mcgimpsey.com/macoffice/excel/nohyperlinks.html

and, for an event handler method

http://mcgimpsey.com/macoffice/excel/nohyperlinks2.html

They're listed for XLv.X and 01, but work in 04 as well.

XL08 *finally* has a preference setting...

Hi

Great tip, but only if I knew how to actually implement the solution.:)

This particular element has been driving me crazy not only in Excel, but in Word as well.

Running OfFice 2005, on Mac OSX 10.5.5

Thanks for your help.

Not sure what tip you're referring to - you replied to an original post
rather than a reply containing a tip.

Since there is no office 2005 for any platform it's hard to know how to
respond...

You can turn the conversions off in Word 2004/2008
(Tools/Autocorrect/Autoformat as you type - uncheck the Internet paths
checkbox).

I also have the same problem and it is a big pain.
I am using EXCEL 2004 on a Mac
when i enter an email address into a cell it turns blue and creates a hyperlink.
The I have to go through numerous machinations to get it not to be a hyperlink, remove the underline, change the color, and match the font and size to the rest of the column.
I read some of your hints and links, GADS can it be more complicated! Again I am using EXCEL not WORD.
Any SIMPLE help would be greatly appreciated by me and i am sure CV Bruce.
Something easy like a entry into the Format/cell area.
thanks

Since you're replying to a post that already has been answered, I'm
assuming the "hints and links" include those I posted.

FIrst, I feel your pain - thankfully the option to turn that
autocorrection off was FINALLY implemented in XL08, only a couple of
versions after it was put into WinXL.

Of course, the SIMPLEST way (the first suggestion in the first link -
and MUCH simpler than what you're currently doing) is to prefix the
entry with an apostrophe. 1 extra key-press, but you need to remember to
enter the prefix in advance.

The next most SIMPLE method (and the second suggestion in that link -
also much simpler than what you're going through) is to type CMD-z after
the autocorrection is made. Two key-presses.

Anything else is indeed more complicated - but the options are pretty
much limited to those other suggestions I made before.
