I customize the view for a folder by using the Automatic Formatting
feature. I have rules that assign categories to some messages. So I
want to colorize those messages. The category does get assigned okay
which I can see either by using the Edit -> Categories menu (which the
e-mail is highlighted) or by adding the Category column to the message
list pane.
Say I have a rule that detects e-mails from anyone listed in my Contacts
folder and assigns that message to the "Known Sender" category. I
modify the view of my Inbox as follows:
- I go under View -> Current View -> Customize Current View menu.
- Click on Automatic Formatting.
- Click Add for a new filter and call it "Known Sender".
- Change the font only to change the color (to green).
- Click Condition to define on what message this automatic formatting
filter will apply.
- Under the More Choices tab, I click on Categories and pick the "Known
Sender" category.
So now I have an automatic formatting filter that will supposedly
colorize as green any message that was sent from a known sender. I then
send myself a test e-mail which the rule triggers on (because I'm listed
in my own Contacts folder) to assign the category to that message. I
verify that the "Known Sender" category got assigned to that message (I
can see its category in the Category column that I added to the message
list pane). Yet the view's automatic formatting filter whose condition
tests that the message is that category is not using the color specified
for that automatic formatting filter. What gives?
