Automatic numbering in the first column of a table in Word 2007

L

Laura

I've just switched from Word 97 to 2007. Wow! What a difference!

Anyway, I need to set up a table I use all the time to automatically number
the first column. I've tried just clicking the automatic numbering on the
Paragraph Group while my cursor is placed in the first cell of the column
where I want it to begin, but when I tab through my fields and get back to
the first column on the next row, it does not automatically insert numbering
for me like Word 97 used to do. It just leaves that cell blank after tabbing
through it to the next cell on that row.

Is there a way to do this? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Select the whole first column and apply the numbering. As you press Tab in
the very last cell of the table, a new row will be added (this behavior has
not changed from previous versions of Word), and numbering will be applied
to the first cell of the new row.
