Automatic Picture Scaling

I want to stop the automatic picture scaling when I insert a picture into a slide. It always inserts it leaving big gaps between the selection frame and the picture outline, which interfere with my subsequent visualization of textboxes. I want to scale the pictures myself. I have to click on the floating button and undo this every time I paste in a picture. How do I keep PPT from automatically doing this?
thanks

The best method is to *not* paste in the first place. That's never the
preferred way to get an image into any type of document or file. The program
you're pasting into has no choice but to accept & pick from whatever the
source put on the clipboard - which is usually not what you might expect.
Use the Insert> Picture command & see if you don't have better results.
