Automatic reply message

I replaced another worker in my department who left the company. We have
Exchange 2000 servers and use Outlook 2003. The Exchange Administrator
routed my predecesors SMTP address to me so that I get his emails (going to
his old email acct). However, I need to generate an automatic reply to
anyone sending emails to my predecessors email address to advise them that he
no longer works for the company. Can I create a Rule to do that? If so, how?

Create the rule and have it look for his e-mail address in the header of the
message. Beware of mail loops, though...

We did the following: 1. renamed my predecessors smtp addresses to
(e-mail address removed)(added the 1 after username). Then, made sure that
(e-mail address removed) is included in my email addresses. 2. Setup a rule in my
outlook that said (a) look for messages with Sender name (e-mail address removed)
and reply with template message ( i created a temlate oft in the template
folder). Did not work.

one thing I noticed is that if I type (e-mail address removed) in the To: box, it
suddenly changes to my name. Does that make a difference?

That won't work - the sender name is whatever it is but it won't be
(e-mail address removed) unless you send the message to yourself. You might be
able to have it check for (e-mail address removed) in the Internet headers.

What specifically are you trying to achieve? This is an address for
somebody who is no longer with the company and you want to respond to
senders letting them know that?

That's normal because currently you are (e-mail address removed).

I see what you mean. I changed to rule to look for the address in the
header. It works....took a long time , however, for the first autoreply to
process. Afterward, all seems well.
