That's one very positive aspect of ThinkPads: IBM's service centres are
good.
Terry
: That was my point. He really debated the expense, especially since he has
a
: brand-new state-of-the-art Dell desktop. But he really wanted to have a
: laptop, too, and after researching what was currently available in the
: market, he concluded that he couldn't buy a laptop with the same
: functionality as his ThinkPad for $425 (which was what IBM wanted for the
: repair--he'd already spend $120+ in fruitless local repairs, including an
: unreturnable IBM part [CPU fan] that didn't solve the problem). In any
case,
: the repair was probably quicker than ordering and getting a new computer:
he
: called, the IBM contractor overnighted an Authorized Return box, he packed
: up the machine and overnighted it back on a Wednesday, and the repaired
: machine was returned the following Tuesday.
