Hi all,

Is-it possible, in word XP, to de-activate the automatic spelling
mistakes detection for only one named document.

Thank-you by advance.

I don't think you'll be able to achieve the effect you want. I assume
you mean that you want "check spelling as you type" to be turned off
whenever that document is opened, but that you want manual
spell-checking (F7) to continue to work. The answer to that is no --
the "check spelling as you type" setting isn't saved in the document
file.

You can mark the entire document as "do not check spelling" (in the
Tools > Languages > Set Language dialog), but that also disables F7
checking.

The one thing that would work, if you wouldn't mind a little
programming work, is to write a macro named AutoOpen that turns off
"check spelling as you type". If you save that macro in the specific
document, it would be limited to that document -- but then you'd get
the macro security warning every time, and enabling the macro would be
almost as much work as turning off spell-checking each time. You could
put the macro in normal.dot and have it look at the document name to
see whether or not to turn off the option; but that would work only on
your PC, not if you send the document somewhere else.

On the Spelling & Grammar tab of Tools | Options, check the box for "Hide
spelling errors in this document." That prevents "misspellings" from being
marked by "Check spelling as you type," but you can still run the spelling
checker manually using F7. If you want to disable spelling checking entirely
for the document, Ctrl+A to Select All, then go to Tools | Language | Set
Language and check the box for "Do not check spelling and grammar."
