Automatic update of Milestones

Sathish

Hi,

I would like to know whether the milestone can be updated
atuomatically, when the sub tasks are all completed.

For eg

Summary Task
Task 1
Task 2
Task 3
Milestone 1

If I set the % complete to 100% for Task 1, Task 2 and Task 3, can the
milestone be udpated to 100% automatically.

Thank You

Not automatically, but perhaps with a macro you would write in VBA. Hope
this helps.

The answer is yes... but it is not a robust way to do it.
First, put the subtasks under a summary task that does NOT include the
milestone.
Next insert the % complete field
Next copy the value of the % complete of the summary task
Then "paste special" the value of the summary task % complete into the
milestone % complete field making sure that you select the "paste link"
option.

Now when the tasks are updated, the summary task updates, then the milestone
updates. If you put the milestone within the summary task you will have a
circular relationship and it will not be a good thing.

Instead of this, why not just look at the percent complete of the summary
task? It calculates automatically.

If you want it to look like a milestone, set it as a milestone. Summary
tasks can be marked as milestones and even formatted to look like milestones.

Hi,

Thank You so much. We normally group all our milestones and put in on
the begining of the project. So that we can just see the deliverables
status. I tried your steps and it worked.

Can you do this with multiple summary tasks?
