Hi, dear Reader,

automatically the table of content?
thanks!

Hi Mila,

Printing the document automatically updates a TOC field, as does selecting
it and pressing F9 (semi-automatically). Alternatively, you could use a
macro with a statement like ActiveDocument.Fields.Update in it.

.
1. Highlight the TOC that you want to update
2. Select View>ToolBars>Outlining. The Update TOC icon
will appear in the toolbars at the top of your screen.
3. Click Update TOC

I've selected the TOC page and click F9 and it didn't UPDATE. I also tried to select View->Toolbar and don't see the Outlining option. Can someone tell me what's wrong here. I have Word 2000 running on Windows 2000

Thanks,

Just to step back a bit....

You did use Word to create the TOC, right (i.e., you didn't type a single
word of it yourself)? Word will only update TOCs generated by Word.

If you select View | Outline, the outlining toolbar will pop up
automatically (glad to know it's directly accessible in later versions than
2000/2001.)

Don't know if that toolbar has an Update TOC button in Word 2000.
