Automatic Update picking unwanted Office updates??

AJJ

I have Microsoft Office Standard Edition 2003 for student and teachers and I
choose to install only the Microsoft office word 2003. Why is Automatic
update picking up critical update powerpoint 2003, outlook 2003, excel 2003
when i don't even have this application installed? Do i have to install this
critical update anyway? or can i cancel it. Are there any option setting i
have to do so that the automatic update won't get those updates?

Hi AJJ,

The updates are at the Edition level, not the 'installed features' level. The apps share common files from the Suite that you have
and the changes affect many of those shared files.

You can always choose to turn off any or all updates. They are recommended for improved performance and/or safety, but not
'mandatory'.

Mine is a similar question. I have Office Professional Edition 2003.
Outlook keeps locking up. Thus, I went to the website to see if updates were
available. It keeps coming back with updates for Office 2000. That doesn't
make sense to me. Should I do Office 2000 updates when I have Office 2003
installed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Joan:
Check Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs for any Office 2000 family programs
{such as Publisher} that you may have installed. If you find any, that is
what is being updated not Office 2003.
