Automatic updation of current date

Hi

Could someone please tell me how i can arrange for template to always
display the current date when it is opened.

if I also want to put a reference number on my letters (which i create on
the template) is it possible to auto-populate the running references on it?
If yes, how?

Hi Jane,

For the date it's simple: Insert a CREATEDATE field into the template.

For the ref #, a macro would be needed. Such a macro could be coded to read a text file whenever a document based on the template is
created, get the number from the text file and paste it into the document, then increment the number in the text file and save it.
You may need to consider how you'd handle a document being created and then being discarded - if the text file's number has been
incremented, the next document will get the incremented number and you'll end up with a gap in the numbering sequence.
