Automatically assign users as resources in Project Server 2007

After setting up the AD sync in Project Server 2007, I was disappointed that
I had to go into each resource and check the "User can be assigned as a
resource". Is there a way for users to automatically be assigned as
resources during AD sync?

Set AD Sync for the Enterprise Resource Pool. I'm guessing you've only
configured sync for security groups.

There are 2 ways to synchronize the resource pool and groups in the MSP2007.

One is using the Active Directory Resource Pool Synchronization located on
Server Settings-->Operational Policies.

The second option is to synchronize using the server settings-->manage group
by connecting MSP2007 group to active directory which enables permission
control. In this option the user fields updated from the AD are:
First name, last name, NTuser, email (depends if it is updated in AD).

The MSP2007 defines the following user fields as default when user are
created by AD:
-User can be assigned as a resource
-Initials are defined as the first letter of the first name
-Account status is defined as Active
-Windows Authentication, using the Windows account
-Resource can be leveled
-Standard calendar
-Committed booking type
-The user is the find as it's own timesheet manager
-The default assignment owner is left empty which is unfortunate in my
opinion as this has to be set manually one account at a time via PWA. If
you don't set this value to the name of the resource then the assignmenst
will not automatically go to the resources but rather to the PM creating the
assignments.

If you are using the first option then all users will be defined as Team
Members which provide them access permission to the system.

Hope this helps,

Jonathan

Be sure on the AD side that none of your sync groups (Resource Pool Group,
Permissions Group) are set as the "Primary Group", this will cause resources
to not sync correctly.

Hello, I have a synchronization occuring between Project Server and one of
our Active Directory groups. The synchronization adds new usrs, but it does
not delete the old ones.

When the AD synchronization process runs, if the system finds a resource in
the Enterprise Resource Pool that is no longer in the AD group, then it sets
the resource to Inactive in the Enterprise Resource Pool. Project Server
2007 does not delete resources. Hope this helps.
