Well you haven't had a reply because with such little information you have
given us there must be a million possible reasons.
Try the easiest first: start Word in Safe Mode and test to see if the
problem still occurs. From the Windows Start, Run dialog type in
winword /a
and press Enter. Word will start in Safe Mode. Does it work OK now? If so,
try three other tests actions.
Find your normal.dot and rename it normal.bad.
Delete and reinstall your printer driver.
Find your temporary folder (in Win XP that is in Documents and
Settings>UserName>Local Settings>Temp) and with all applications closed,
make sure it is empty. Delete everything that you find abandoned in there.
