automatically entering data

I want to create a way so that when you go from one form to the next, some of
the data is automatically transferred. Eg. name.

I have manged to do this using Control Source, but I run into problems if I
try to open the second form without the first one open, which I would like to
be able to do.

I created a macro using SetValue but I get an error message saying "Out of
String Space" and I can't work out how to fix it.

I am new to this, so I need step-by-step instructions.

Any advice?
