automatically making a record

hello,

I have a small question about access. I am a bit of a
newbie at access.

While building my DB I came across a field that is linked
to another field via a one on many relation. The problem
is that the one needs to be filled in and this shoot
automaticaly generate a record in the other table where
the number is a key. I can't get it to work. It is the
only required field in the other table.

Is it possible to create a function to copy the data to
the other table, and making a new record with that key?? I
have no autonumbering in either of the tables....
