Automatically mirroring Outlook and file system folders/directories

In an effort to reduce mailbox size and but remaining organised, I am
looking for some way of automatically mirroring the structure of an
Outlook folder (housed in OST or PST, don't know if there would be a
difference) and a folder/directory structure on a Windows file system,
typically on a disk, so that I can remove attachments from messages
and save them to disk.

I want to map, say, all folders under Mailbox/Filing in Outlook to the
directory structure under e:\users\wessel\work such that when I create
a new folder in Outlook a matching new directory is created on the
file system, and the other way round. It does not have to happen
immediately and can be scheduled for every so often.

The second half of the problem, for which a number of solutions exist
is to remove attachments, save them in the associated folder on the
file system and create a link in the mail message to it. I find none
of the solutions that I tried (and even bought) efficient and elegant
and most either make too many assumptions and are not flexible enough,
or require too much manual intervention.

Any pointers to something that may help me?
