Hello,
I am working everyday on the same long document. How can I make Word automatically open it at startup?

Put an Alias to the file in one or more convenient locations, double-click
it to launch Word & open the file at the same time.

Alternatively drag the file to the Dock to serve the same purpose.

Me, I'd leave it open for months on end.
What is this startup of which you speak?
<grin>

Honest. It was my normal mode of working, although I did do fairly
frequent "save as" with 'version numbers' appended to the file name, to
leave a trail of breadcrumbs in case I screwed up after lunching too
well.

I'd happily leave Word and Excel running with untold documents open
from one major OS update to the next.
Putting the computer sleep is the key ingredient. You keep the
environment police at bay, and you are back working in seconds,
straight after breakfast every morning. It never worried me that Word
spent 2 minutes optimising fonts or some other drivel at startup. I saw
it once per month. Max!

Note this was on version Office 2004. I'm not 'up'grading till 2008 or
its successor goes stable with recordable macros, currently scheduled
shortly before the heat death of the universe.
