Automatically pulling key milestones from various project plans

Hello,

Our company currently store all our plans on our project server and this
includes our core or ‘roadmap’ projects.

We currently manually compile an excel spreadsheet showing key dates pulled
from each ‘roadmap’ project, but I was wondering if there is any way of
compiling this using EPM?

One thought I’ve had is to produce a single roadmap project plan and
dynamically link to the core milestones in each of the individual roadmap
projects. However, is there a quicker way of achieving this?

Many thanks in advance,

Hi kelly,

Your approach sounds good. The other alternative is to use a Masterplan.
Please note that Project Server and Masterplans dont really like eachother :)
should you create a Masterplan, please make sure NEVER to publish this plan
otherwise it will double up values in Project Web Access.

Masterplans are very good if you need to have one "big" plan based on many
"smaller" project plans. Once you have put them togehter and created
dependencies etc, you can filter your plan on milestones. I can imagine that
this may help you automate your required report.

The nice thing about the masterplan is also that as soon as you update the
"smaller" subplans, the masterplan will also update.

Hope this helps

Kelly: you could write a SQL query to pull your dates from your milestones
into a excel spreadsheet or into a SQL reporting Services report. I have
done this for several clients.

Hope this helps.
