Automatically select single entry in dynamically created dropdown

Hello,
I have a infopath form that I'm filling several dropdown fields from a
sharepoint list. Basically, I'm having the person choose the Manager, which
then gives a list of Last Names, and finally that gives a list of First
Names.

Now more often than not there will only be ONE first name, once a last name
is chosen. Is there a way to have the form automatically pick that single
first name?

Maybe something different: but is it possible to combine First Name and
Last Name into one dropdown field but still have it be dynamic from the
Manager?

BTW, I'm using Infopath 2003.

If you're using a drop-down list box for the first name and there is only 1
first name in the drop-down, you can automatically select that item by
putting a rule on the last name drop-down. Do something similar as in this

As for combining names, you'll have to write code, and do something like in
