Automatically Update Fields When Opening Doc

D

Dan Johnson

I have an old Word 2003 doc which automatically prompts me for info (using
the "FILLIN" field) when I first opened the doc in Word 2003.

When I open the same doc in Word 2007, the fields are still there, but I am
no longer prompted to enter information (at open). I've looked everywhere
in Word 2007 for a setting that controls this, but can't find anything.

Anybody know what I need to do?

Thanks!

In Word, click on the Pizza Button and then on Customize
in the bottom border of the dialog and then click on the Advance item and
scroll down to the General section and check the box against the "Update
Automatic Links at Open" item.

Thanks Doug, but I had checked that option previously and it doesn't help.
Was thinking the language used for a similar option in Work 2003 didn't use
the term "links" either, but I'm not sure.

I would use a userform, rather than fill-in fields

See the article "How to create a Userform" at:

http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Userforms/CreateAUserForm.htm

However, you could put a macro named autoopen in a template that you save in
the Word>Startup folder that contains the following code

ActiveDocument.Fields.Update
