Automatically Update font colour on overdue tasks

L

Hello, I'd like to know if it's possible for the font colour of a task to
change once it has passed it's finish date. Do I need to create a macro? I
am using Project 2003. Thank you.

Hello Lemonburger,

You could create a formula in a flag field to compare Finish >
Baseline Finish and set the flag to yes. Then create a custom bar
style to display for the flag field. See FAQ #31 to get you started
and post back if you need some further help.

FAQ #31 can be found at:

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Thanks JulieS, That sounds like a good option. However, I have seen a
project plan (many years ago!) where the font in the task line changed to red
automatically once the Finish date had passed. It wasn't dependent on the
Finish date being manually updated. I'm guessing this would involve a macro?
cheers, L

You're welcome for the information. It's tough to tell precisely
what you were seeing on the project plan awhile ago.

If the Gantt chart has been formatted to show critical path, a task
which moves to the critical path will turn red.

The information I gave below does not assume the finish date is
being manually changed but rather the finish of tasks are being
changed through tracking. As an alternative, you could compare the
current date to the finish date, change the flag through a formula
and then the Gantt bar will change automatically. I'm sure
something could also be done through a macro, but unless you set the
macro to run when the file was opened you'd still have to manually
run the macro to format the bars. A calculated flag field would
update automatically.

Give us a bit more information about what you want to compare
(Finish to Baseline? Finish to current date? Finish to Status
Date?) and we'll see if we can lend more assistance.

Jan and Lemonburger,

So sorry Lemonburger -- I was not reading closely enough. I was
thinking Gantt bars -- not font color.

Jan -- thanks for bailing me out once again. :)
