Automatically update style

How do i turn off the automatic update style...when i highlight one word in a paragraph the whole paragraph changes...how do i stop it..

Place the cursor in a paragraph that's concerned, then choose Format>Style.
Click on the Modify button, then disable "Update automatically" in the new
window that pops up. Hit OK, then Apply, and you should be back in your
document, with no automatic style updates.
