Automatically update table of contents fields

Is it possible to have the a table of contents update itself each time a
heading is changed rather than having to right-click and update manually? I
have a document in which I frequently update the headings and it's a pain to
have to continuously update the table. It seems like automatic updating would
be the default. Thanks in advance.
