Automating behavior

Hi,
In my work I often have to write documents (contracts) that will have the
following aspect.

Text of the first article goes here. Text of the first article goes here.
Text of the first article goes here. Text of the first article goes here.
2
Text of the article two goes here. Text of the article two goes here. Text
of the article two goes here. Text of the article two goes here.

What I would like to do is have Word generate the number automatically for
me, when I press Enter.
This said, I used to program in VB 5 (before Law school) ... but I'm a
little rusty. Could someone direct me to the right way to do this?

BTW ... I should have said I am still using Word 2002 ...
