Automating Color by Value

I have made a map of my work place. There are many objects with a fixed list
attached. I have all the items colored by what variable is chosen in the
fixed list. When I change the value in the fixed list the color doesn't
change. I have to go through the process of reapplying color to the whole
document. I have tried using macros to automate the process but macros never
record when you go into a toolbar. Is there anyother way? Or do I have to
learn VB? Thanks for all the help!

You have to insert a formula in the shapesheet cell FillForeGnd that
uses a value from the list and select a color.
