Automation Error: The object invoked has disconnected from its Clients

I'm using VBA in Excel 2000 to collect data from an Access database. Things appear to be working fine for a while and then all of a sudden the message "Runtime Error -2147417848 (80010108) Automation Error" appears. The window will only allow "End" to be selected before either 1) Working as if nothing had happened or 2) Crashing Excel with the now very familiar "Excel has encountered problem... sorry for the inconvienence". The Knowledge Base has one article on this error but it doesn't apply as Print Preview button is not pressed

I've tried upgrading to SP3 but nothing seems to work

Any ideas? Thanks in advance
