Automation or XML ?

Just looking into Visio (2003) automation for the first time and considering
to use XML to generate Visio drawings from a custom app vs. creating them by
code using the Visio SDK.

Any experiences using the one method over the other ?

If you are doing more than the simplest of diagrams, then I would advise
automation...
