Autonumbering corrupt

T

tamtam

Hallo,

Any idea why my autonumber field suddenly jumps from 40
to
1081187930 ? All tables have the same problem. Even a
previously made backup (copy to file *.bak) has the same.

There was a flaw in the JET 4 dll that could cause AutoNumbers to go wild.
Microsoft fixed this several service releases ago.

Locate msjet40.dll (usually in windows\system32).
Right-click, and choose Version.
If you see less than 4.0.8015, go to the Downloads section of:
support.microsoft.com
and get SP 8 for Jet 4.
That should prevent the problem reoccurring.

For the tables that already have the problem, you will need to delete the
records with the wild numbers and then reset the Seed of your autonumbers.
