Autopreview not working

I have Office 2003 SP2. I have autopreview turned on but it isn't working.
I have turned on and off the reading pane and it has no affect.
When I search for help get the help list and then click on an item the
preview starts working. When I close the help windows the autopreview goes
away.
Any ideas???
