AutoRecover doesn't recover after Word quits/restarts

In Word v.X, I have Save Preferences set to AutoRecover every 1 minute, but
after Word quits and I restart it, the files do not come up as Recovered--
well actually, some do sometimes, but not all all the time. Say, if I have 3
documents open, maybe one wil show up as recovered. What am I doing
wrong? Do I need to restart the computer? (OS 10.33)

Don't confuse Autorecover with Save.

An Autorecover is NOT a save: it is simply a collection of the changes to
the document that is written to disk as an independent file.

The brain-dead Smurf who invented this mechanism now works in Marketing
where he can surround himself with fellow incongnoscenti ...

Which means that an Autorecover will be offered ONLY if Word crashed or you
force-quit it. If Word exits normally, it deletes the Autorecover files as
part of its exit routine. When Word starts, it checks for the presence of
Autorecover files: if it finds any, it then opens the documents to which
they apply, applies the Autorecover changes, then shows you the result and
asks if you want to keep it.

The thing that actually provides a saved version of the document is
Preferences>Save>Always make backup. And that saves only when you tell it
to with Command + s.

So what you are doing wrong is that you are not in the habit of pressing
Command + s each time you stop to think. I suggest you acquire that habit
now :)

Cheers
