autorecover

hello everyone:

I was working on an important document (though aren't they all important?)
got into a good groove, and typed for a good hour without saving. At some
point the single document split into two documents(?) with the title
document1:2. Seeing very clearly that two were present, I closed the second
one, only to see the first one close as well. Strangely, it did not offer me
the option of saving before closing like it usually does. All of my work
vanished, and I have not been able to find it in the recycle bin, nor did
autorecover revcover it when I closed and reopened the application. In the
options section, I have my autorecover info at every 10 minutes, and allow
background saves checked. Is there anywhere that I may be able to recover
this information? Is there a folder where all autorecover files are kept?
It would seem that if there was an auto recover option on, and I was working
on the document for more than an hour, and I did not change it once I closed
the application, I would be able to recover it. any thoughts? Help!

Sounds like you inadvertenly activated the Window | Split command. This
doesn't actually open a second copy of the document, so when you closed the
doc, you closed it all (but you should have gotten a Save prompt).
