Autoreply rule removing HTML from OFT template

I have a outlook rule to autoreply to certain messages. I used this article
to set it up. http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA010750991033.aspx

I created an outlook template file (OFT) with the message I want to
autoreply with.
Works fine except the receipient receives the message in plain text
with no HTML. The original message contains html formatting (bold,
backcolor, etc. but no pictures). How can I get the HTML to be preserved in
the autoreply message?

is the recipient's contact set for plain text only? is the original message
plain text?

I don't know the sender, I'm just autoreplying to all senders that meet the
rule criteria. The original message is not in plain text, it is in HTML.
