Autorun.inf file on CD wont run!?

Last week, I followed the instructions in the Microsoft White Paper
describing how to make a cd based web with FP2002 and to my delight, it
worked great!

Now this week, after refining my web a bit more, I attempted to again
create a cd based web. I 'think' I did everything exactly the same but I
guess not. The cd will NOT autorun.

I CAN double-click on the index.htm file and everything works fine. So
the problem (if there is one) seems to be with the autorun feature.

(FYI, I tried inserting the disk on my desktop and laptop with the same
results- it will NOT autorun.)

Any thoughts??

Hmmmm. According to MS, the only two files that belong in the root folder are
index.htm & autorun.inf and that is how I'm doing it.

Jeez this is frustrating- especially since it worked just fine last week!!

It seems to me that if just those two files are there it should work. In fact,
I can hear the cd startup and run but a browser never launches.

Steve:

Maybe I'm being dense but this is how I created the CD-

First, I published the web to a new location on my HD called 'cd_burn'. (Enabled
with Microsoft FrontPage server extensions is UNCHECKED)

Second, I opened FP and renamed all the .htm files in the 'cd_burn' folder to
names with 8 or less characters and then move ALL of them (except index.htm) to
a new folder in the 'cd_burn' folder called 'pages'.

Third, I imported an autorun.inf file into the root 'cd_burn' folder so only TWO
files remain in the 'cd_burn' folder root- index.htm & autorun.inf.

Lastly, I burned the cd_burn directory to a new, blank cd. The burn process goes
ok.

I remove the cd and reinsert into my pc's drive. I hear the cd startup and spin
but a browser window never opens.

What am I missing here?

you don't want to put the folder cd_burn on your blank disk, you want to put
it's _contents_ on to the disk.
here is how to check:
put the disk in your drive, go to my computer, click the cd drive it's in
and if the first thing you see is a folder there is your problem. you
should click the drive and see what was inside the cd_burn, that being your
index page and your autorun file, and the folder called pages.

Does your autorun.inf file point to index.htm? Open it up in notepad and
take a look.

D'oh!

That was my fatal error- burning the entire 'cd_burn' folder rather than just
the folders' contents.

Problem solved.

Thanks to all!!
