autosave--how do I save a backup copy?

Oh how I hate Microsoft programs!! Why can they not give good technical
notes?! Why is it that I have to go to the forums to learn how to do anything?

Word (at least Word 2000) allows you to automatically save a backup file. As
far as I can determine Publisher doesn't. This is ridiculous!! If there is
any type of program you want to save backups in, this is it. I have looked at
autosave, but I cannot figure out how to get the version of a file I saved
just before this one.

The next thing is, I went to Windows Explorer to try to use the %temp%
solution Mary Sauer gave someone else, hoping that might work. Well, I cannot
find Publisher 2007 in my programs. I can find a nonfunctioning entry for
Publisher 2000. I tried opening it in Picture Manager, just to see if I coudl
get something (I couldn't), and NOW all my temp files automatically open in
picture manager. How do I fix this? Why on earth does MS make this an
automatic thing--if you are already searching for what file might open
something, chances are you aren't going to hit it on the first try and now I
am stuck with everything "opening" in Picture Manager.
Can anyone help? Thanks.
