Autoshape defult color

I changed an autoshape's fill to a patern. When I try to change it back to a
solid color, like White, the fill effect sticks. It seems the only way I can
go back to a solid color is to go back into patern and choose white for both
the background and foreground. Is this a bug or is there some hidden new way
to reset back to the default white autoshape fill?

I can't reproduce this problem in Word 2003 or 2007. If this were "shading"
rather than "fill color," you would need to set the "pattern" to "clear."

Right-click on the auto shape -> Format Autoshape -> Fill Effects -> Patern.

Once this is set as the default fill for the autoshape there is no easy way
to set it back to clear or white. There is no clear choice in the Patern
choice grid.
