Autoshapes do not snap exactly to grid, but close

I have layed out a work area in 2 files where autshapes snap to grid. When I
open these files everything looks great. Now when I open a new file, the
autoshapes only come close to the grid lines. Autoshapes are spaced
properly, but they do not line up. I have reinstalled Office 2003 and this
did not help. How can I correct this?

I found that this happens when I "hide white space". Is there a fix for
this? Otherwise, everything snaps to grid.
