Autotext causes tracked change

J

John Gregory

I have a document made from an existing template (.dot), and when I use auto
text, the text is inserted as a tracked change. I then have to accept the
change to get it to work.

I can re-created the auto text entry and it works, but this is inconvenient
since I have many, and I do not want to spend all day re-creating them.

Some details:

All of the documents and templates are relatively old, nothing has been
changed in quite a while,

I have used the template and auto text regularly with no problems, except
that today they don't work,

Track changes is being used at all, I have confirmed it is off,

The auto text entry is in my normal template an works well in a normal blank
document,

The current document template (the problem document) was created based upon
the same normal template I currently have,

I am using Word 2003, Win XP

How do I correct this problem?

If the AutoText entry is stored in normal.dot and works fine with other
documents, the issue must be with the particular document that you are
editing. If the instructions at
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/trackchanges/HowTrackChangesWorks.html#AcceptReject
does not work, try copying the document contents minus the final paragraph
mark (¶), into a new, blank document.

Note that in order to show/hide paragraph marks (as well as other
nonprinting marks), you can use Ctrl+Shift+8.
