AUTOTEXT FILENAME AND PATH

G

Guest

When I try and insert the filename and path under the
header/footer tool bar it does not exist. Filename
exists, but not Filename and Path. It did at one time,
but I did something to screw up the definition of this
and now it is not there under "Autotext." After an
unistall and reinstall, "Filename and path" are still not
an option on the Header/Footer toolbar. However, when I
go to "Autotext" and choose Filename and path, it will
insert the following: "{Filename\p]. How do I get the
actual path and filename back like it was before.

Any help would be wonderful

The entries listed under the Insert AutoText button on the Header/Footer
toolbar are all the ones that have either Header style or Footer style
applied to them. Since you can still see the "Filename and path" entry in
the Insert > AutoText dialog, it seems that it's there but formatted with
some other style.

One way to fix it is this:

- In a blank document, apply the Header style or Footer style to the empty
paragraph.
- Use the Insert > AutoText dialog to insert the "Filename and path" entry.
(It doesn't matter whether the field code or the field result is visible,
but you can toggle between them with Shift+F9 if it bothers you.)
- Select the field (don't select the paragraph mark after it).
- Press Alt+F3. In the Create AutoText box that pops up, enter the name
"Filename and path" (without the quotes) and click OK.
- A message will ask whether you want to redefine the AutoText entry. Click
Yes.
- When you exit Word, if you're asked whether to save changes in Normal.dot,
answer Yes.

Another way to fix it would be to use the Organizer to copy the entry from
another template.

This and more is described in
