AutoText

Joanne

I have been reading the boards about the autotext feature and trying to
follow all the different suggestions to load our Word 2003 autotext into Word
2007. We have a variety of templates that we haven't used since installing
2007, so I tried applying one of those templates to a new document, but the
autotext is not appearing in the Building Blocks Organizer. I can't tell
whether we still have an old Normal.dot template or not. Where would I find
it? I'm assuming the normal.dotm that is currently in our startup folder is
the 2007 template, which obviously wouldn't have our old autotext, right?

I'm a tad confused with this. :) So, any help that anyone can give me would
be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!

Can you expand on what you mean by "applying one of those templates to a new
document"? Do you mean you created a new document based on the template? Do
you mean you changed the Document Template?

Did you search for Normal.dot to see if you still have it? Also, Normal.dotm
shouldn't be in a startup folder, it should be in your Templates folder. To
find the Templates folder copy/paste the following in the Address bar of the
Windows Explorer:

%AppData%\Microsoft\Templates

Yes, I created a new document based on the template. I think I just got it
figured out. Apparently, when we installed Word 2007, it saved the old
Normal.dot as Normal11.dot. When I apply that template to a document and look
in the Building Blocks Organizer, I see all my old autotext.

Thanks for your help!

Hi Joanne,

Yes, if you do an upgrade-in-place, the installer can rename it to NormaL11.dot (v11 is Word 2003).
