AutoTextList field and graphics

I'm using the AutoTextList field to create a dropdown list. All of the results are graphics (stored as autotext entries). The problem I have is that once the user chooses from the list and gets a result, they cannot right-click on the graphic to make another selection (instead of the dropdown list, you just get the regular shortcut menu for a graphic).

Is there a way to keep using the AutoTextList field after choosing a graphic?

Thanks.

How were the original graphics created? And what kind of "text flow formatting" has been applied?

Cindy, I've found a workaround. The graphics are
autoshapes (actually each graphic is a small group of
autoshapes).

When this wasn't working, the graphic's text wrap had
been set to "In Line With Text".

What worked for me was to set the text wrap to "Behind
Text" and to position the graphic directly behind the
field. I've also changed the formatting of the field,
using a tab character and Paragraph Space Before, so that
it's now a square that entirely covers the graphic
(allowing the user to click anywhere on the graphic and
get the function of the AutoTextList field).

If anyone asks, I'll spell this out in step-by-step
fashion in a followup post.

Thanks for your questions, which led me to this.

Hi Todd,

Right. This is a "bastardization" that has all kinds of
problems. In VBA these are still recognized as belonging to
the Shapes and not the InlineShapes collection, which tells
you just how "inline" with the text they really are.

Glad you've got it working :)

Another approach would have been to select the
AutoShape(s), Edit/Cut, then Edit/Paste special as a
PICTURE format. That could be placed in-line with the text
"correctly".
